Paint
Collision & Classics is proud to be the first in the area to offer the BASF Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne paints, a low VOC, Volatile Organic Compounds, paint that is good for the environment. The Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne paints reduce Basecoat VOC’s up to 90%, greatly reducing the impact on the ozone. Our computerized paint mixing system minimizes paint waste by mixing just what is needed for paint repairs, and the high-volume low-pressure spray guns deliver just the right amount of paint to help minimize waste.  Collision & Classics has two downdraft spray paint booths with specialized filters that capture the maximum amount of airborne particulates, reducing the effect on the environment. Collision & Classics was featured in an article by BASF about its Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne paints. The article featured owner Gerald Condon and the shops conversion to the new Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne paints:  “Condon was able to convert his paint operation to a waterborne basecoat system with relative ease. Prior to the conversion, his shop was using the Glasurit 55 Line solvent basecoat system for several years. His shop had been partners with BASF for years, working with them to design the best layout for the paint department. Plus, all of Condon’s painters received training at the BASF Dallas training center.” In the article, Gerald went on to say how after the conversion, the decrease in VOCs in the shop’s ambient air and the elimination of the solvent-based gun washer allowed them to walk through the paint department without smelling the solvent. Collision & Classics also uses the new BASF clearcoat products, 923-255 (glamour clear) and 923-550 (production clear) in his shop. Unlike some other clearcoats that have a yellowish tinge when applied, these were crystal clear when used over the waterborne basecoat. They allow for fast production and high gloss retention. The BASF Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne paint article goes on to talk about a huge open house held at Collision & Classics to introduce the new 90 Line to the public:  “Everyone from our local business owners, fleet customers and insurance agents were invited. It was a huge turnout,” says Condon. “Rather than have a new paint product that we quietly adopted into our business, we showcased the 90-Line.” Customers will typically make assumptions regarding color match in a body shop operation performing collision repairs. What’s the problem, one might ask? “No matter how difficult the task appears to be on the collision side, the customer always expects it’s just natural [to match a color],” says Condon. “Now, with this 90-Line color, we can match the color easily, the way the customer expects it should be.” Condon claims the first and foremost benefit of the conversion was the performance of the 90-Line. “Our customers absolutely love the results and the finishes we produce,” he said.” For more information about BASF Glasurit 90 Line Waterborne paints go to: www.basfrefinish.com and click on the Glasurit 90 Line.
